Elizabeth O'Brien
Elizabeth O'Brien, a junior at Pinecrest High School and military child, began volunteering with MMIA in the spring of 2010. She was recently crowned Miss Thomasville's Outstanding Teen 2015 on February 7, 2015 and was awarded the "Community Service" award for the teen division as well as tied for the fitness award. Her service began by raising items for "Footlockers for Soldiers" in Moore Co., which was a huge success for her. But decided that she needed to switch her focus to the military child. Elizabeth loves children and felt that this program would fit her perfect. The Hike2Help will be the an annual event to raise funds for MCAAP which is co-sponsored by the Village of Pinehurst Parks and Recreation Department. The Military Child Access Assistance Program was born because of the lack of funding for accessiblity into homes for military children with disabilities. The Fall of 2014, Elizabeth also took it upon herself to collect blankets for homeless veterans living in North Carolina. She was able to collect well over 500 blankets for her cause "Keeping Veterans Warm". Elizabeth is continually collecting items for both "Footlockers for Soldiers" and blankets for "Keeping Veterans Warm". If you have items to donate please contact Elizabeth at [email protected].
